Sculpture

Some of India's greatest art was carved, not painted. This section looks closely at sculpture: the stone figures of Khajuraho and Konark, the serene bronzes of the Chola workshops (the dancing Shiva chief among them), the rock-cut giants of Elephanta, the Buddhist stupas of Sanchi. Much of it began as devotion and survives as art. A small, growing corner of the site for anyone who wants to see how Indians turned stone and metal into gods.
